MÖNEY / SPRGRS – ‘SMPÖRNGERYS’ split cassette

I picked up one of the hand numbered 50 cassettes of this release when seeing SPRGRS on their U.S. tour this past year. While not often a fan of the split cassette format, it was their newest release and I decided to check it out. The three MÖNEY tracks on this cassette absolutely blew me away. A beautiful, meandering modern take on new-wave from Bristol, U.K. SPRGRS is more by the numbers egg-punk than their split counterpart, but the songs are almost equally as catchy. Driving, spastic, drum machine driven warbled-out riffs. I actually think this band is awesome and loved their set when seeing them. After catching them live, however, I am a bit concerned about their well-being as they seem to be the most current band that has caught the SNÖÖPER virus. I didn’t realized what an epidemic it was becoming in the egg-punk world, but the standing still jazzercise moves and high-kicks are starting to become a staple within live egg-punk bands and I am truly baffled by it. It makes absolutely no sense to me and I hope somebody comes up with a treatment soon to save these poor souls.
