BZDET – ‘Daleko Od Ok’ cassette

Twelve song cassette from what is quite possibly the most prolific underground project active today. BZDET is a solo recording project that began during Covid lockdown, and the sheer volume of releases is staggering—even I, who put out the band’s collection cassette on my own tape label (Tetryon Tapes), can’t fully keep track. Thinking that this was their newest output, I jumped on ordering a cassette so as not to miss my opportunity since XTRO releases cassettes in severely limited quantity. As it turns out, of the 21 releases listed on the BZDET bandcamp page, eight of them are actually newer than this one. Absolutely wild. Daleko Od Ok includes some tracks that were instantly familiar to me, since a few of them appeared on Maybe It Is Enough?, the collection cassette I released. Hearing those songs in their originally intended context was a refreshing way to revisit the tracks I already knew. For those less in the know than I, who is also seemingly a few steps behind, BZDET is a bizarre solo project from Poland featuring repetitive bass licks and plink-plunky guitar leads. The tracks take on a life of their own, hypnotically lulling the listener along it’s path before often ending abruptly, leaving you in a slightly anxious daze. This is lo-fi, weirdo, bedroom artsy post-punk/no-wave, and I honestly can’t sing the praises of it enough. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I apparently have eight other full-length BZDET recordings to catch up on before I can move on with my day.
