HAVANA SYNDROME is back with their second cassette EP and it is another round of demented synth-punk mayhem. Hailing from Buffalo, NY, their first demo surely turned some heads, well, it definitely turned mine anyways. This project began as the solo-project of mastermind Lucas, first cassette being just him and the songs driven by a programmed drum machine. This second EP has enlisted a real live drummer to keep the train rolling while Lucas continues ‘ack-ack-ack’-ing like a Mars Attacks alien on a murderous rampage. I’ve been seeing comparisons to RESEARCH REACTOR CORP. since the bands first demo, but personally i think it sounds closer to 3D AND THE HOLOGRAMS, a differentiation that maybe seems a bit like splitting hairs. Wildly unhinged, scary hardcore mixed with the catchiness of synth-punk. Could this possibly be any better? Well, since you asked, yes it could…when the band delivers us a damn LP! Until then I will continue being happy that this is now a full-band live project and is active in my hometown. Keep it up, you maniacal weirdos.
